No actual drawstring, just aesthetic. A small drawstring is sewn in at the front so that the pants don't really pull together. Be aware of the correct waist measurement and don't rely on a falsely advertised drawstring.

Based on other reviews I ordered one size larger than my son usually wears. He usually wears size 8 pants. I ordered a size 10. I bought these pants for my 11 year old son. He is 5'1" tall and weighs 87 pounds. He is slim with long skinny legs and it's hard to find pants that are tight enough in the waist but long enough for his legs.
