MagMod MMBEAMW01 MagBeam Wildlife Kit Review

If you are a photographer, the Magmod system is a must-have. Each piece is designed for photographers to aid in their workflow on set or in the studio. Not using it is a disservice to you customers!

I still haven't figured out how easy it is to close but it works great, folds down to a very nice compact size and fits in a cloth bag. This increases the range of the flash and is great for birds in the trees.

Works as it should. When fully extended it goes down and the beam is in the bottom half of the frame by 70-200mm. I'll figure out how to level it with shims or something. i like it, so keep it!

The hood is so heavy that neither of my two flashes could keep the target level. The weight of the hood pulled the flash head down instead of keeping it level and pointing where the lens was pointing. I had to return it.

From what I understand the Magbeam Wildlife Kit is essential for bird photography. I'll say it's very heavy, but I don't think it could be made lighter to keep it from sagging. I have a Better Beamer which is very light and works, but I wanted to capture all of the light my flash puts out. I bought the Harbor Digital Flash Extender which works very well and is lightweight. I bought Magmod because I liked the way it was built and it fits almost every flash. The only downside is that it's heavy.

Reseller was good, fast shipping etc. Item as described. My first impression is that I probably won't be using the Wildlife Magician mod. If you set the flash zoom to 70-200, the camera's frame rate will automatically be set to 200, which is too slow for birds in flight. I'm usually in the 1600+ range so I can freeze the action and my wings don't blur. I can't automatically change the frame rate to 200 which is the maximum for my Canon 600 EXT-RT flash. I was hoping to add light under the wings
