Melissa & Doug Mermaid Role Costume Review

This is the perfect Halloween costume for my 2.5 year old daughter. That being said I've read that this is a size for 3-6 year olds which seems very inaccurate. My daughter is very small for her height (not even 3ft tall or 30lbs) and this fits her perfectly. Just a note for those with older children.

My 4 year old daughter is 34 pounds and 38 inches and while this costume is adorable, it is quite short for her. down to try to make the tail longer. It would be great if Melissa and Doug would custom make their costumes. She has another pink dress by Melissa and Doug that hits just above her ankle. I don't know why this dress seems so much shorter.

The suit runs small. He applied 3+. We got this for our daughter's 4th birthday and it barely fits. She carries 4 tons, weighs 39 pounds, but she is tall (97%) so I expected her to be a little short. It's very short and the velcro barely closes on the back. The quality of the fabric is good, but the inside could be softer. I would recommend a smaller size like 2 to 3t not 3 and up.

Perfect! My 4 year old loves it. She is taller for her age (she wears 5T and she fits like the picture with fins off the ground). The costume is much prettier in real life. It is very shiny as my 4 year old says. As a seamstress I can say that it is of high quality and will last a long time. She just loves this dress. Well worth buying for a few bucks more than other suits that are hard to walk on and cheaply made. I doubted this one was worth the money but I'm so glad I bought it!

We love our Melissa and Doug costumes and were glad to find this costume but the size is a big disappointment. The package says it's for 3-6 year olds but my average 4 year old didn't fit in. The waist is very narrow and the tail barely reaches the knees. I had already wrapped one up and sent it to a five year old as a Christmas present so it was a huge disappointment to find out it wouldn't fit. I wish there was more room for adjustment and growth like in our other costumes from them.

I have bought several Melissa and Doug costumes over the years and have been very happy with the quality. I bought this mermaid costume for my 3 year old granddaughter who loves to dress up and wanted a mermaid outfit. She loves it and even wears a headband with a crown. The two tail fins are on the front of the dress while the back is straight. Fits well, but runs small. It is advertised as for 3 to 6 year olds but I think it will only be suitable for 2 to 4 year olds. We haven't washed it yet
