These are high quality and inexpensive hiking shoes. Comfortable straight away, no complaints from a 6 year old. Fast shipping too. Very happy with these shoes.

Good quality walking shoes. Ordered in black for a 10 year old who reports feet and socks stay comfortably dry even in the rain. Can also be used as a school shoe and is therefore quite economical.

Liked the shoes, liked the fit. Aversion to wet feet in dry weather, aversion to extremely slippery soles when wet! These shoes are deadly. Sole protectors are dangerous! Don't buy if you don't want to go to the hospital like me!

Merrel did not disappoint again. A few years ago I came across a pair of Merrel shoes and now I only buy Merrel for my son. The last 2 pairs were grown before they wore out and I expect they will be the same. We've had them for 3 months now and they look brand new.

I was looking for waterproof shoes for my son. He can also wear them to school when it rains as they are not too heavy. He doesn't like the stiffness of most hiking boots. He also hates the ugly brown color of most of them. The style is excellent - he approves and loves her. They fit more like sneakers than hiking boots, so that's a plus. Bought for my 10 year old and she says they are very comfortable. She is usually a size 2.5 and bought a size 3. Perfect for good hiking socks. I rubbed my ankle slightly the first time I wore it, which may have been because the tie wasn't tight enough, but haven't had any problems since. I also got a Merrells adult size and would definitely recommend this brand.

They are not waterproof. My son played on the playground for an hour and got wet feet. It didn't even rain. The only reason I didn't return them is because he likes them.

Bought these for my son as his trainers were wearing out and he wanted him to buy him something like walking shoes so they will definitely meet the needs of both! It's been a few months and it's holding up well. Worked really well for scout camp and walked like a 9 year old. I replaced the laces on my boots when they started to wear out - the laces should have lasted longer so deducted a star!

Merrells are always the best! That's all I'm trying to buy for my kids at the moment. My only complaint is the laces. Who made these things?! They don't stay connected - they just end up with knots.

I'm surprised by this rating as they don't appear to be waterproof in the slightest. They were bought for walking mixed terrain and knowing Merrell as a brand I expected them to work well. However, it appears they are not, despite being advertised as waterproof. Walking on wet grass gets the socks of two of the kids I bought them for wet. My child had this model in several sizes, most recently in a 36. Now the size 37 is a full 5cm larger than the 36 and there is no size in between. So now we're going to have to go with another brand. They don't last as long as more expensive brands (eg Superfit), but with growing children the size only lasts for one season anyway. Child finds them very comfortable.

They were great for the first few months, but they fell into disrepair very quickly. Looks waterproof, but it's not. Inside the shoe was cardboard that got wet and formed lumps. I cut the lining to get the box out to get a few extra weeks off of these shoes that lasted less than 4 months. The sole is also almost completely worn out. Almost paper now.

The shoes are perfect for our needs. My son has special orthopedic insoles for his feet and needed a sturdy, slightly heavy shoe to better control his feet which have a bone problem. Also shoes that fit the inserts without sacrificing comfort. This shoe is perfect for everything. We are very disappointed in these shoes. We bought them for our son in April. He only wears them occasionally, but by late June or early July they are starting to fall apart. Update: after contacting Merrell, they agreed to provide us with replacement shoes of comparable value and they gave us a number of options to choose from.
