It's like an old marketing ploy where a manufacturer sells overpriced refills when you buy their good product. This essential refill is criminally overpriced and wears out too quickly. Filters are available at much lower prices. It's a shame about the manufacturers of this excellent product.

The instructions say the smell from the filter should be gone within a few days... weeks have passed and the air it blows out just smells bad. The only reason I keep using it and keeping it is to assume it purifies the air? Overall I'm just not satisfied with the product considering the price. At least the smell should be neutral.

PECO replacement filter smells metal/chemical and stinks throughout the room. The company claims to pick up this smell during shipping, but this must be false as the filter comes in sealed plastic packaging from the factory that makes it. Apparently the smell comes from the coating of the PECO filter. I called Molekule support about the strong chemical smell from the replacement filter. A Molekule rep told me the smell was "coming from the warehouse," and I was told to leave the device in a closet or other unoccupied space for 24 to 48 hours.
