Tray completely covers foil edges. If you plan to scan negatives, you'll need to look at the film to correct the white balance in Lightroom. This tray doesn't allow that.

The second photo of a different tray is the one I really wanted. You can see it has magnets and only 1 slot in the middle. The actual item snaps together like two pieces of plastic. The magnet type is much better. Although I can't find them anywhere.

Because they have tabs for attaching film, the trays will not close when a slide is inside. They don't work with slides. Also, I found the shells difficult to open and use for negatives. I would not recommend them due to the misleading (or inaccurate) description.

I used these to mount my 35mm film for scanning with my DSLR. Each compartment holds up to 6 frames, so I cut the negative film roll into sections of 6 frames. To use the trays, open them, carefully place the foil in the tray (the tray has small notches that fit the notches in the foil), then close the tray and squeeze until the foil clicks into place. I paired this with a cheap $20 LED-lit tracking bar, and it illuminates the negatives just enough for my camera on a tripod to get a good shot…

If you have negatives, they are about 30 years old or more. Mine were kept in an envelope and when I pulled them out they were slightly bent. this makes it very difficult to load them into these shells. If yours are nice and flat, these trays are fine. If you have hundreds like me, it will take forever. Right after I received them, I found the MK1 film holder + Pro MK2 mount in the Negative store. You feed your negative through the brushes, turn the wheel and each negative appears perfectly…
