Efficient and Reliable Sensor for Home Safety

This MQ 135 sensor module makes it easy to detect gas leaks at home! It is very efficient and reliable when it comes to detecting harmful gases in the air. The tool comes with user-friendly instruction and is easy to install even for someone with no background in tools and home improvement. However, it only detects specific gases and might not be suitable for detecting all household gas leaks. Overall, a good investment for added safety in the home.

Pros
  • Easy to use with clear instructions included.
Cons
  • Requires an understanding of electronics and coding to fully utilize the module's capabilities.

Relatively inaccurate if you want decent ppm readings. This is more useful for simply detecting the presence of NH3 than for getting accurate readings. Another disadvantage is the very long warm-up time of several hours. That being said, if you just want to build an NH3 detector, this will work. Keep in mind that a good NH3 sensor costs over $400.

Pros
  • High marks for tester support and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

Should work very well for most hobbyist purposes

My expectations weren't that high as a Photoionization Detector (PID) would certainly be preferred, but for VOCs it's hard to come by, the data sheet is small and they're expensive* . I was surprised how well the MQ-138 works. No, you won't get super-accurate PPM readings, but if you need delta readings, they'll do what you want. In particular, I wanted to check for the presence of acetone, and it responds very well to acetone vapor. The technical description of this sensor can be found at the…
