Great for chloramines!

Here in South Florida, city water is heavily treated with chloramine, causing even clean tap water to smell strongly of chlorine and look (very) slightly yellow. After adding this cartridge to my 3-stage filter (the other filters are a 5 micron sediment filter and a 5 micron activated carbon block), the water tastes neutral with no noticeable odor or color. I hope to have 6 months of it but only time will tell

Pros
  • Chic design
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

This filter saved my family from the evil Zorgons.

This filter saved my family from the evil Zorgons that live in our water supply. They enter you through your pores through your shower water, but not me. No longer. It gave me pleasure to hear their screams as their two-micron bodies got stuck in his cracks. Kudos to our host and commander, Grabozoid, for putting me in charge of filtering all the shower water. Let his mustache shine dazzlingly.

Pros
  • This is awesome

I had the 2nd

The first one I bought lasted a very long time (over 1 year) and made my already good water even better by removing a 'chemical 'taste' from the lungs I bought my water a week ago, it has made my water much worse. It has added a new chemical taste that along with a bit of chlorine makes it awful. I won't try any of the others because by then if I pay for shipping I've already bought a new filter and consider $17 a loss. The new sticker that came on this filter was a nice touch too. cancer…

Eliminates chlorine odor and taste

I bought a good quality charcoal coconut shell chlorine filter cartridge and it has worked terribly. We got the smell/taste of chlorine with or without a filter. Then I called Pentek Technical Support. One of their savvy techs explained that we probably need a chloramine filter. I thought chlorine and chloramine used the same filter but he said they didn't. I used a Pentek Chlorine Plus 10 Chicago tap water filter and it removed 100% of the chlorine smell and taste. A+++

Pros
  • 50,000 GAL CAPACITY. Replace every year or when you notice a drop in pressure or water quality
Cons
  • No Automatically

I originally installed an Express Water 5-Stage reverse osmosis system under my kitchen sink, but it did nothing to remove chloramines from my tap water. My water still tasted and smelled of chlorine and my API test kits still showed high levels of ammonia. So I finally bought this filter and replaced the charcoal filter part (3rd stage) in my existing system. Now my water comes out PERFECT. The smell and taste of chlorine is gone and the water tests are MUCH better. I am very happy with this…

Pros
  • SUPERIOR CHLORAMINE AND CHLORINE REDUCTION THAN Granulated Charcoal
Cons
  • Legacy Model

Better to use cow magnet and standard coconut shell filter

Bought to try. It's an activated carbon filter, not coconut shell, so it doesn't have as good porosity (filters out fewer VOCs). Chloramine removal works well for 2-3 months at 2 gallons per day in my area, but then wears off. So at $20 a year, water treatment costs $80. for it (4 replacements) compared to $12 for standard coconut shell activated charcoal, which lasts 6 months at $6 each (2 replacements). Instead, to remove chloramine (charged particles), I use a cow magnet on the bottom of a…
