Description of ProGet

ProGet helps you package applications and components so you can ensure your software is built only once, and then deployed consistently across environments. This means everyone can be certain that what goes to production is exactly what was built and tested. Third-party packages (such as NuGet, npm, PowerShell, and Chocolatey) and Docker containers are also supported, allowing you to enforce quality standards, monitor for open-source licenses, and scan for vulnerabilities across all packages, much earlier in the development cycle.

Has greatly improved release process & workflows

I like how easy it makes deployment of code changes from development into our various testing/staging environments as well as Production for customers. The ability to test locally before pushing out new version has been nice too! The ease in which one could deploy updates without having any concerns about unintended side effects or breakages has really helped us keep an even higher level consistency between versions. It's quite useful because we are able not have time-consuming manual…

Pros
  • Easy setup, reliable automation.
  • Good documentation (with examples)
  • Abilityto see what is going wrong during production deploys if something fails that should succeed.and vice versa; )Good integration options suchas running tests within VSTS build processor deploying directly onto target machines using PowerShell scripting capabilitiesetc
Cons
  • There are nuances

Awesome continuous integration tool using proget

The ability of having the same app in many environments; The GUI for a new user is nice; Setting up configuration variables; It's easy to do versioning and rollback. The fact that they support GitFlow which is awesome; I want everything to be automatic but the UI needs some work on it if you don't know how to use GitFlow you will not be able t to customize its deployment workflow. I recommend trying it out even if you are familiar with other deployment solutions like AWS or Jenkins. We are doing

Pros
  • Nice integration
  • Easy creation scripts
  • A complete CI tool suite built into one application.
  • Configurable build triggers from Github pull requests (PR)
Cons
  • Documentation can definitely improve
  • Nothing really comes immediately
