Type of review

After years of daily use, my Conair lighted makeup mirror died. I had to pry it open with a small Phillips head screwdriver and there was a ring shaped bulb held in place by many clips. It was a minute of struggle to free the old lightbulb, but a great reward as the mirror shone very brightly. I didn't even realize it was so dark. Only 4 stars for ease of installation but everything else is great!

Pros
  • Finally bought
Cons
  • Protection

This bulb is not as large in diameter as the original Conair bulb (which is currently unavailable). This slight deflection is enough for the bulb to break trying to insert it, since the clips holding it are too tight. Unfortunately, they do not offer a return option. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy this if replacing it in a Conair makeup mirror - it's NOT the same as a Conair lightbulb.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Nothing

Who knew my makeup lamp even had a lightbulb?

This bulb was really expensive - over $25 but very cheap compared to buying a new vanity mirror for about $75. The first bulb that was fitted to my mirror lasted over 10 years so hopefully this replacement will too. When choosing a replacement, pay attention to the orientation of the pins. I didn't even know my lighted magnifying mirror contained a lightbulb, but someone else figured it out for me, so I'm really glad I didn't have to buy a brand new one.

Operation before installation

So glad I can keep using my expensive old mirror! As others have written, the installation is difficult. The sockets holding the old bulb were so tight that the old bulb broke when I tried to remove it. I shook out the fragments and performed the operation. Take a pair of heavy scissors and cut at least half of the clear plastic fasteners in the four places where the new lamp will be (see photo). This creates a more open but still adequate support for the new bulb. Just cut something off, check

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • Almost never

SOME BASIC THINNESS IS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN THIS WITHOUT BREAKING

Conair Reflections Double sided makeup mirror with fluorescent lighting, 1x/10x magnification, oiled bronze by Conair, light only, not blue tinted as others state have SOMETHING FUNCTIONAL TO GET IT WITHOUT BREAKING. Be smart and take your time, don't force anything. Slowly pry off the hard round plastic retainers. then a little bang and that's it. My original lamp lasted exactly 2 years with my wife. I hope this pear is longer. I know the transformer is usually an issue with fluorescent lights

Pros
  • Many will fit
Cons
  • Some complexities

That's exactly what he says.

This bulb works great, it has replaced my wife's makeup mirror for me. Be careful when ordering this type of replacement. What to pay attention to.1) Exact size. In many applications for these lamps, the housings or mounting brackets are too tightly tolerated. I've seen 4.7, 5.0 and 5.5. Make sure you get the right one. 2) connector type. This is a 4 pin connector. 3) connector location. Again, tight tolerances can dictate where the connector MUST be. Some lamps have a plug on the outside of…

I don't know why the bad reviews

Yes, it took me 10 minutes to install from start to finish. I don't understand why everyone says it's so difficult. The lamp is held by 4 zippers at the 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions. Carefully remove the 4 cable ties with a screwdriver. Next, in 4 places where the cable ties were located, you need to carefully "push" the lightbulb out of the groove into which it was snapped. Once that is done, unplug and remove the lightbulb. Insert a new bulb, gently snapping it…
