The built-ins are very limited for customizations so you have to use JS/CSS if needed which can be difficult when working within an application framework. The product is easy to use and configure and have a lot of customization options. I like that you can also upload your own content instead of relying on the base templates. There are some bugs I have experienced. For example, when you drag and drop pages in the page library it sometimes doesn't work and you need to reorder them - which isn't intuitive at all.
