Description of 🎤 Enhanced Shure BETA 91A Half-Cardioid Condenser Kick-Drum Microphone with Built-in Preamp and Male XLR Output

Uniform half-cardioid polar pattern for maximum gain-before-feedback and rejection of off-axis sound. Precision-engineered low-profile design features integrated preamplifier and XLR connector to maximize setup efficiency while minimizing stage clutter. Frequency response tailored for kick drum/low frequency applications with a wide dynamic range for use in high SPL environments. Two-position contour switch to maximize attack and clarity depending on application: select the flat response setting for natural sound in most applications or the “low-mid scoop” setting for a strong low frequency “punch” with plenty of higher frequency attack. Requires no external mounting or accessories for ease of use and storage. Furnished with zipper pouch. Kick drum microphone provides a strong low-end response and maximum gain-before-feedback due to its half-cardioid polar pattern. It features a two-position contour switch to maximize attack and clarity and a low-profile design. Also in the box: 1 - 95A2314 Storage bag. You'll have a better bass drum sound

Put this in your bass drum. Then put the SM57 on the stand on the front head slightly into the cut hole or connector. Do them both. You will have the best sounding bass drum. Watch out for bars and clubs.

Pros
  • With zip pocket
Cons
  • I'll add later

The best mic for adding attack to a kick drum

If you're wondering why your kick mix doesn't sound like everyone else's, it's because you're not using this mic. It might not be the best standalone kick mic, but add another mic to it. like beta 52 or akg d112 or audx d6 gives hit click instantly. This mic adds tons of clarity so you get a rich kick drum sound that's more than just boom. Great microphone. If the drummer doesn't have a porthole in the kick drum, take it out so you can use this mic.

Pros
  • The half-cardioid kick mic delivers strong bass response and maximum gain before feedback. It features a two-position contour switch for maximum attack and definition, and a low-profile design.
Cons
  • confused

Fast setup and reliable sound

I use this mic in a cajon. It's great for quick tuning and as I only use the Cajon for low frequencies as I play it with a footswitch it works flawlessly. I love that I can just throw it in and it's ready to go. You don't have to worry about an arrow stand or anything else. I also had a Shure Beta drum mic. This can provide better sound overall, but for my application, this one works better. I've heard that a lot of people use two mics to get really detailed sound, but that's overkill for me!

Pros
  • No external assembly or accessories required for easy use and storage
Cons
  • Long wait time

Haven't used it as intended yet!

I originally bought this mic for my kick drum while we were getting ready to start recording some original songs. Enter Covid - no more concert halls, meaning no more electrifying rehearsals or recordings. We switched to rehearsing outside and I tried using this mic in the base of my cajon. My cajon has a place to run a cable into the unit and it's been amazing - I now record my rhythm tracks with a mic on the front and a second mic inside for low penetration. I like the sound very much.

Pros
  • To maximize setup efficiency and minimize stage clutter
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

HOLY MOTHER OF DRUM MICROPHONES!

If you want a powerful kick sound with incredible clarity, this is the mic for you! Don't buy this mic on its own though, it's best to use it with another kick mic in the resonant porthole of the head. Not that the 91a couldn't be used on its own. I use the beta91a as a kick mic and place it in the drum next to the head. I've used it with Audix D6 and beta52a, both have had amazing results with 91a! Adds a completely different dimension to the kick drum sound. My application is intended for use

Pros
  • Uniform half-cardioid pickup pattern for maximum gain before feedback and off-axis noise reduction
