🎥 Optimized Vlogging Cage for GoPro HERO8 Black by SmallRig (CVG2505) Review

Bought expecting to have to cut the lens hole to accommodate a C-mount connection for a BackBone modified GoPro. I was happy to see that he entered the hole perfectly without any modifications. All I wanted to do was attach a long time lapse battery to my gopro, but there are so many great small rig attachments out there that I'm going a bit crazy. No regret.

Very strong little cage, very good for a GoPro. The filter thread fits perfectly. Only 4 stars because the audio adapter bracket is just really awkward to hang around, I think they could have done better. A Rode VideoMicro with a dead cat on a cold shoe dangles in the camera's field of view, but you can tilt it to the side by wrapping the cable around the camera. Overall pretty excited. Just hope they make one for Hero 9 👍🏻

Can't say enough good things about this company and their products. I keep my film cameras in cages and the rigs that build them, and the GoPro is no exception. This micro cam is more than just an action cam and this cage allows for use with a tripod, any 52mm filter/column and an optional side door for charging port access. I absolutely love this item. Smallrig continues to do a great job. Another happy customer.

A very thoughtful solution for Hero 8 Black. Fits well, just wobbles, I don't like the pin to close the access door. Difficult to coordinate fingers to open. The sealing of the chamber was also broken. Tried putting the original door back in place but couldn't close the frame, too much foam inside, felt like something would break if you squeezed it. Great ways to attach accessories. The mount pins are slightly loose and flex on the mount, so only a 1/4-20 adapter needs to be used.

I was happy to receive this cage but the machining and lack of quality was very disappointing. To be honest I should have just returned it as it cost a lot more than the other cages listed. The problem was with the back cover, which is closed with two screws at the back. The hole in the lid and the screw did not line up with the body of the cage/housing. I ended up having to mill holes in the lid to get the correct alignment that would allow the cage/enclosure to close completely. I have…

I gave it a 4 to 5 rating, here's why: H7black is hard to find A more natural fit would be 2 plenty. I have another brand that isn't that dense at all. Quality, just put some silicone on the thumbscrew threads and twist the "back cover" up to the frame and they screw in nicely. Plenty of vents obscure the internal stereo mic on the right, but if you bought it, it's an external mic, right? I haven't tested durability or GPS and I don't use it either. I am very impressed with the overall quality of this housing as well as its features which allow you to customize your setup using cold boots, lens threads and a microphone mount. It installed easily with no problems and accepted my lens filters with no problem. This bag is very well made and gives me extra confidence in the durability of my camera. The side door opens quickly and easily to give access to the battery and SD card, and the latches close so you don't have to worry about it staying

Overall I'm satisfied. I have several SmallRig products and since my GoPro 7 Black is a secondary/b-roll camera I wanted to be able to quickly take it out and use an external battery so I don't have to worry about battery life at all. As usual, the one-piece CNC machining is amazing. My GoPro 7 fits like a glove and really offers enough protection as well as the ability to add a variety of accessories.
