The only thing I don't like about this recorder is the sound level meter. I just wish it was more like the audio level meter on my Olympus WS-853. Ideal for recording lectures. Much smaller and much faster (on/off) than previous Sony voice recorders. I used to have a Sony ICD-AX412 replacing this one and it's an upgrade in every way. This voice recorder offers amazing sound quality with good sensitivity for voice recording. I tried using a Sony powered external microphone but found that the recorder itself gives better recording without using an external microphone. There are sensitivity levels to play with. Dictation or personal notes will probably work slightly better with low sensitivity since you're speaking directly into the microphone. A high sensitivity is good for shooting indoors, e.g. B. at lectures, meetings etc.
