Fabric backing. I've had mine since March 2011 and love it! I am naturally clumsy and have often dropped my phone. The case fell apart several times but my phone was protected. He snapped back immediately. I haven't had any issues with gaps etc. The edges of the case are a bit torn in a few places due to my clumsiness, but it still fits the phone well.
