Bargain Bin Compass Fails Hikers

After trying this product on multiple outdoor trips, I would not recommend it to anyone serious about hiking or exploring. While the mirror function is a nice touch, the compass consistently gave inaccurate readings, causing us to stray off course several times. This cheaply made gadget is not worth the investment, especially when there are higher quality options available in Sports and Outdoors stores.

Pros
  • Mirror function
Cons
  • Inaccurate compass readings, poor quality.

This compass is pretty good. As for the side of the mirror

Apart from the signal mirror this compass is pretty good. The mirror side is shiny as it should be, but doesn't have a proper hole for easy aiming. The compass wheel is easy to turn, which is very useful when working with maps. In general, this is a normal product. Not military standard, but ok for the price.

Pros
  • Contoured frame for easy grip
Cons
  • Long delivery time

They were light weight and easy to use

I bought two of these compasses to take to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. We used them to build routes for 12 days. They were lightweight and easy to use. The tip rubbed a little now and then, but if you giggled at the compass, it pointed to magnetic north. For the price I think it's a good buy. We hit them and they held up well.

Pros
  • Tough plastic case
Cons
  • Some bugs
