AND STILL the best microphone in terms of value for money.

See my other two reviews of the same microphone. There's a reason I keep buying them (and it's NOT because my previous ones broke). All still work perfectly. As I said, the best microphone for a budget DSLR. Whenever I add a new camera to my arsenal, I automatically buy a new SGC-598.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • There are nuances

I'm an award winning special effects shooter and have used many gun mics but never found one this cheap. After testing the TAKSTAR SGC-598 I was so blown away by the quality of this microphone that I bought another one. The TAKSTAR SGC-598 is almost as good as my Sennheiser ME67/K6, which costs a few hundred euros more.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Upgrades available

I never realized the importance of sound until I tried this mic!

I recently restarted my YouTube channel after being inactive for almost 5 years. After re-watching some of my old videos, I realized that if I wanted to stay relevant and move with the times, I needed to update my settings. I paired this with my canon t6i and am very happy with the result. The product quality is ten times higher than before. Definitely a must for every outdoor shoot!

I'm glad I heard all the feedback.

I'm used to using a lavalier mic for all my videos, but I needed something when I was in the middle of filming kids. so some searched and rummaged through it. The reviews for it were really good and the price was several times lower than some others, so I'm giving it a shot. First, it is very easy to connect and operate. It only takes one AA battery to power it, which I really like. The controls are very easy to learn and the pit stays nice and solid in front of the camera. It also looks and…

Defeat competitors!

First of all, I have a bachelor's degree in music and doing sound was a big part of my education. I also work as a music/media partner so sound, as they say, is very important to me and crucial to my work. I don't just do home videos! I just have to say this mic is great! I first bought a Rode Video Micro for my Nikon D3300 but it was virtually unusable due to DSLR noise. I usually shoot interview/announcement videos so the hiss was just unbearable. However, this TAKSTAR saved my life and…

  • An absolute legend

Skip Rode mics great price

I first considered a Rode mic but settled on this one as it is literally $200 cheaper. I'm very glad I saved the money because this mic works just as well as the Rode. Sound settings and turn off the built-in audio amplifier. They don't work well with external microphones and tend to amplify ambient noise. Set it to 25-30% to eliminate hiss and turn on the +10dB switch. With these settings, the sound is perfectly clear, with no hiss and keeps ambient noise to a minimum. I used it for a video…

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others

Installation problems / noise problems? Look here.

For those having trouble installing to camera or hot shoe: 1. Unscrew the bracket from the microphone assembly using a screwdriver.2. Grab the metal bracket with a wrench.3. Turn the round knob by hand until the clip releases.4. Screw the bracket back onto the assembly.5. Slide everything onto the camera shoe mount.6. Turn the handle until it tightens. For those with a loud hiss (on the Canon Rebel EOS at least. I think it's the same on most Canons): 1. Put your camera in video mode.2. Rotate…

Amazing sound for a $26 mic. Buy three.

For a long time I've enjoyed the comfort and security of a recording studio, but now they're throwing me onto the streets. The video on the Samsung Note 8 was better than my Canon DSLR, so let's record video on it now. Sound has always been an issue for any video recording. Yes, the Note 8 has a very capable microphone and works well in a control environment. But add in some external echo, background noise and some wind and it's an obvious disaster. A friend has a Rode Video Mic and does the…

The best cheap microphone! Comparison to other mics

Important note: When I wrote this review I wasn't aware of how much white noise/noise this mic produces at the +10dB setting. Display only with microphone at 0 (NOT +10 dB). The sound level should be reasonably good at 0 dB. I use a parametric equalizer in post to improve sound quality, not just crank up the volume. Just make sure the camera's audio gain is set to the highest level you can set it to without hissing. I compared this mic to 6 other mics and this was the best! I also listened to…
