Great USB-C Console Cable

This cable replaces the old serial console cable I used with the adapter. It's flawless every time. Great buy, great value for money.

Pros
  • Special Offer
Cons
  • Factor Set

Works exactly as it should

Plugged in and worked right away on my Mac and Windows PC. I was able to connect to Cisco and Dell switches with no problem. It seems well built and should last as long as the old Cisco serial cables.

  • Best
Cons
  • Crumpled

Peace of mind - USB cable

Changing the configuration of the network router can mess up the network enough to make the router unreachable over the network. This serial port gives you that peace of mind - you can always connect to your router through it. I use it with my Ubiquity EdgeRouter ER4 and it just works. Please note that you need to set the options correctly in Putty (or similar terminal). But if you're dealing with professional gear, it shouldn't matter much :).

Simple, compact and works as intended.

What you see is exactly what you get - a USB-C cable that plugs into the RJ45 console ports. You can attach an adapter to connect to other types of serial devices. Very handy for debugging broken hardware.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • No Instructions

Works over time, but not without pain

Works, but not without pain. I have a 2021 Dell XPS 13 with Windows 10. I keep updating the OS. Windows 10 did not recognize the cable and had no drivers. I had to google this cable to find the drivers but it worked in the end. I would say...not plug and play. At least not in my situation.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Long delivery time

2 out of 3 defective within a week

This is very poor quality. The USB-C end of one cable had fallen out. no rough use just dropped from standard use. The second cable just doesn't work anymore. I won't even use the third one as it's unreliable and it's just stupid to have a spare console cable out in the field. I will use a more reliable cable with a USB-C adapter.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Faded

Peace of mind is best with USB cables

When you change the configuration of a network router, there's a good chance that the network will become so messed up that the router is no longer reachable over the network. This serial port gives you that peace of mind - you can always connect to your router through it. I use it with my Ubiquity EdgeRouter ER4 and it just works. Note that you need to set the options correctly in putty (or a similar terminal). But if you're dealing with professional gear, it shouldn't matter much :).

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
