Works great - USB cable

I bought this to program my TM-D710GA with CHIRP and use Winlink with built in TNC. Programming worked fine (insert into correct port). To use the TNC, I downloaded the driver from ftdichip.com, plugged it into the correct port, and winlink works fine.

Pros
  • Looking forward to
Cons
  • Some difficulties

It only works in USB cables

It just works. It appears to have very high quality cables and connectors/housing. (The round connector that Kenwood uses is a fragile connector type, but this does not reflect the quality of this cable.)

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Ideal for TM-V71A

Very happy with this cable! I use it to program my Kenwood TM-V71A with CHIRP on a Windows 10 computer and it works great. The drivers you need are built into Windows 10, but I'm not sure about older versions. I was hesitant to buy a non-OEM cable, but the cost savings made me change my mind. I am happy to report that the cable is very high quality, very thick but not stiff and there is a red/green LED on the USB A side to indicate when data is being transferred, so you know when it's safe to…

Pros
  • Beautiful
Cons
  • Some flaws

Ideal! USB Cable

This gem saved me nearly $40 on the OEM cable plus serial to USB adapter you need to use the OEM. Seriously Kenwood, who else has a serial port?!? My TM-V71A is mounted under my driver's seat in my truck, these 6ft of cables were enough to sit in the driver's seat with my laptop and program my radio. Worked without problems with the free Kenwood software. Requires no driver installation, loads automatically (on Win10). Thank you Wirenest, that's a big win!

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Annoying

Affordable price, works but not for field use

Works great with CHIRP. While the build quality around the USB port is pretty weak, you'll be fine as long as it's kept in a desk drawer at home. I wouldn't use it off-road. The plastic surrounding the USB drive looks and feels cheap, and the connection doesn't always match the computer. However, it was worth the cheap price.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised

Works great in computer accessories and peripherals

Cable works perfectly. I had a small error installing the software, but Windows 10 was able to quickly find and install the driver. The multi-pin connector felt a bit odd when I plugged it in, but it worked just fine.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • No automatic

Used to connect my laptop with Outpost to my Kenwood D710GA. Note that this device has two serial ports and one data port. You must use the port on the back of the console, not the transmission module, to access the internal TNC. Once I figured that out, all of my other problems were related to the transceiver or the Outpost software. (That worked for me.)

Pros
  • Fits a lot of people
Cons
  • Some nuances

Great cable for computer accessories and peripherals

Great cable, looks high quality. I used this cable and CHIRP to easily program my Kenwood TM-D710G. Beware of cheap rattling cables, always buy an FTDI chip.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
