They generally didn't work in soft limestone areas because it was too compressible. Also, the pressed limestone dust is like crazy glue to these things, and I had to pound it with a jackhammer a few times. They worked well on harder limestone areas.

You rarely buy a tool and it far exceeds your expectations. These spring chisels REALLY WORK. I needed to break an 8 inch concrete slab and initially had no idea how to go about it. (Jackhammer? They work great. I doubted they would work that well given the low cost. using a sledgehammer was not effective. I've split about a dozen boulders with it and am very glad I bought it. A good demo hammer makes the job very easy. I replaced the cheap rock drill bit with a 1 1/8" demo hammer and made drilling holes much faster.
