Review on πŸ“Έ Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight: A Powerful Lighting Solution for Exceptional Photography by Adan Hudson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

An excellent flash, but with some flaws that are unforgivable given the high price.

Update: Flash "paid off" on grandson's birthday/Disneyland trip - no batteries to carry around, didn't overheat as advertised after a few exposures, great fill flash on the road, didn't work Don't miss the moment! I used 8 iMah HR6 AA 2400 mAh batteries. Conclusion: Fantastic photos when used alone (10 stars). The cooling system works! I haven't tried the wireless capabilities yet, but my main reason for buying it was that I was able to take 100 consecutive photos before the flash fired (that almost happened with my SB-900). And the reason so many photos are taken at once is so precious moments of a fast-moving 2-year-old grandson (think Usain Bolt in diapers) aren't lost while someone else is filming. Reasons for 4 Stars: These aren't the main things that should keep you from buying the SB-5000, but it's an expensive machine! 1. The backlight on the LCD screen is insufficient and Nikon technical support was able to tell me that the backlight is lower than the SB-800! 2. The menu system is primitive, especially when compared to flashlights from other manufacturers (e.g. Nissin, Canon) and other modern digital electronics in general. 3. The low battery icon does not appear quickly enough to change the batteries, for example when trying to capture important footage at an event (think of the newlyweds kissing!). The manual and Nikon technical support did not help. 4. Heavy (but compact size is good).
