Review on ๐Ÿ”— Makita P-45777 Guide Rail Connector Kit: Streamlined Black Linking Solution by Oliver Phelps

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The connection works very well; but it's worth checking and thinking before you use it.

Used to connect two Makita chainsaw bars together. It works well when properly installed. It seems obvious to just plug it in and tighten the screws; but you may not have any luck with this approach. There are 2 plates and 4 set screws (and a spare set screw in what I received). The unperforated insert (#1) enters the groove in the guide from the bottom, the perforated insert (#2) enters from the top first. One of the panels has a couple of bulges to help you keep the panels aligned. These protrusions should face the gap between the plates. The screws enter the holes in plate #2 and butt up against plate #1. This is important as it prevents the hard steel screws from cutting into the soft aluminum rail. The screws effectively increase the distance between the panels by pressing #1 against the bottom of the groove and #2 against the flanges at the top of the groove. Each screw should rest on plate #1 and plate #1 should be centered on plate #2 between the tabs. If the plates don't seem to go into the groove, it's probably because the screw is too far out, or one end of the cymbal is resting on bumps rather than between bumps. Leverage is usually your friend; but not in this case! After you connect the tracks; Be careful when assembling. The paths are long and a little hard. The connector is flimsy, and only those little aluminum flanges at the top of the rail groove and the strength of two thin steel plates hold it all together. Handle the guide assembly carefully to avoid bending the guide and/or link plates. Try to minimize the stress on the connection and the adjacent flange faces. I recommend unplugging the rail from the connector as soon as possible. If you are going to be leaving it together for any length of time I would consider buying a longer rail and taking the risk out of the rest of the system.
