No Instructions: Power & Hand Tools

Somehow from reading the sales page and some reviews I got the impression that these are 2 identical rods used in the bottom guide in the rail and the accessory guide on the outer rail side. 2 rods to make the connection more secure and less slack. Supplied with 2 metal rods, 5 set screws and a hex wrench in a nice resealable tube that fits in a Makita chainsaw case. But 2 rods of different thickness and only the thinner one has only one unthreaded hole. There were no directions, no pictures…

Works great but no instructions

Makita did a crappy job documenting or explaining this product. The "kit" consists of two rods, 5 set screws (one spare screw) and an Allen key. Both bars go into one of the T-sections on the track and you use the set screws from one to push the second bar in. This creates a nice snug fit without forcing the set screws into the aluminum rail. Since there are two sections of T-rails on the tracks, it is ideal to connect the tracks in two "kits". it is, and there is an alternative Festool…

Works perfectly. for power tool replacement parts

They work as advertised and expected. It seems a bit pricey as are the tracks. If the longer track wasn't so expensive I would buy it. Instead I bought a second short rail and this bushing. I am not disappointed and recommend this solution. I use a set to connect two 55" Makita rails. They fit perfectly with no problems. It would be better if they came with instructions, or at least a picture of how to use them, as it's not immediately obvious. The two parts must be used together. One has holes

A few annoying facts

There are two things that confuse me about this product. As others have said, there are no instructions. Without going into details, when looking at a longer strip, there are two ways to orient it in relation to a shorter strip. On the one hand, the cleats can be interpreted as helping to keep the shorter plank in place relative to it. Going the other direction, the lugs could be interpreted as holding the bar flush with the slot (albeit with a slant). Looking at the pictures on Makita's…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons

Used to connect two Makita chainsaw bars together. It works well when properly installed. It seems obvious to just plug it in and tighten the screws; but you may not have any luck with this approach. There are 2 plates and 4 set screws (and a spare set screw in what I received). The unperforated insert (#1) enters the groove in the guide from the bottom, the perforated insert (#2) enters from the top first. One of the panels has a couple of bulges to help you keep the panels aligned. These…
