Review on 63124 Eclipse Black 2 Inch Carrier by Harley Franchetti

Great bike rack but the tow bar doesn't lock

Overall a solid rack. Also suitable for children's bikes due to the narrow handlebars and straps. There have been some issues getting two adult bikes side by side, but it all depends on the bikes themselves and their construction. Sure, you put them in opposite directions, but even then it's difficult. The first had to be mounted normally, the second had to be mounted with the help of a stand between the seat post and the crank. So it was pointing down. And it works fine as long as your car has enough ground clearance. As for the people who say you can't get into the tailgate with bikes on the trunk, maybe they're doing something wrong. I had no problems with it, even with three bikes on it and one bike facing down. I stood directly behind the counter, holding the reflector piece with one hand and using the other to release the pin. I lowered it and it has a breakpoint. Not a single motorcycle touched the ground. I even pulled the car out of the garage with them pulled down as it was too high and could hit the garage door. Then it was just as easy to put it back on and insert the stylus. I really liked this part! My only complaint about this, and it's a pretty big one, is that you can't lock the hitch! Whoever came up with this design had an idea, while the rest of the team clearly had another. If you look at the pin in the picture you will see that it is threaded on one side. You can't use the master lock they recommend to buy it from Revain. The big pin won't fit (unless you've reamed the hitch mounting threads) and the smaller one will, but give the whole thing a little wobble. So they force you to use the grub screw they provide as others have stated in the reviews. Yes it can make it tight but not convenient as you need a key. And then there's no way to attach it to the car so no one steals your new carrier. Yes, you could use a cable lock, but why would you need it? But if you look at the pin they give you, it has a hole for the cotter pin they give you. And he also has a head, clearly intended for the castle. Looks similar to the master lock pin head, but the master lock will not snap onto this head. I tried. WHY did they design the pen this way if they didn't make a lock for it or intended to put a lock on it? You would simply cut off the bolt after the cotter pin hole. Apparently someone was planning to block it, but the company's tech support staff denied knowing about it. Regardless, I used the smaller of the two Master Lock pins, which caused it to wobble a bit, but it was ok. I can buy a HitchTech stainless steel "quiet collar" clutch stretcher for $15 that fixes this problem and I can still secure it with a small pin. All in all, this is a solid stand. Heavy but solid.
