Really nothing but friction keeps the nuts in place. Over-tightening the handle will only pull the nut out of the handle, and then the handle will disassemble and everything that was holding on to it will be completely destroyed. The nut stays on the bolt, but the handle falls apart in your hand, leaving the nut behind. The product design needed to better handle the implanting or molding of the nut into the handle so that it would not come loose from the handle simply by tightening beyond the initial friction when the edge of the handle makes contact with what it is against . As you continue tightening the knob, simply pull the nut out of the knob. Note. My application simply used the shoulder screw handle to tighten the Craftsman pruning saw extension, not the T-Track application. Maybe I should have ordered a different handle type with a non-removable nut inside. The original knob with the nut cast inside was cracked and this knob was meant to replace it.
