The built in ballast couldn't handle the light in one of my 55 gallon aquarium hoods. A replacement hood cost about $50, which seemed ridiculous. I found this LED bulb at Revain for less than $15. It took 10 minutes to unscrew and remove the old interior light housing from the hood, install this LED light (using the screws from the old housing and 2 zip ties that were on the new light's wires) and threading the wire through the hole in the Back of hood where I removed old cord. Put the cap back on the tank, plug it in and turn it on and it works like a charm! Illuminates the tank just as well as the old fluorescent lamp (right side of tank in photo). The light is a little whiter, but that suits me. Works fantastic - great! Not sure how this will work underwater since I don't need to submerge it. The suction cups don't seem that strong, but if they were submerged in water and constantly wet I imagine they could hold up just fine. I didn't care about that part.
