My old queen sized coil mattress was ancient, totally shot, and causing me much pain. I recently got a twin 4" futon mattress filled with New Zealand wool. (I thank the sheep every night.) I'd been having steadily worsening allergies over about the past three years. A recent blood test revealed I had a serious dust mite allergy, so I wanted to get my new mattress encased ASAP.First, I fell victim to an ebay issue. I was going back and forth between a couple of options, and didn't realize it had defaulted to full, not twin size. So I had a cover that was 15" too wide and of course the return window had closed. So, I had to make this work or be prepared to fork out another $36. If you order any of these, double check the size before ordering.Who are the lunatics who design these things? Getting them on is like wrestling an alligator, except I think that might be easier. I put the zipper portion (once I was finally able to find where the zipper started) over the short end because it sure as heck seemed logical to do so. Wrong! I couldn't get the mattress to lay flat. I had to remove the cover completely, fold my mattress in half lengthwise (yes, you read that correctly), squeeze it through the opening, adjust the cover, and only then could I unfold the mattress inside. I tucked the extra 15" of width underneath, then put on the fitted sheet. The installation instructions are misleading. They don't state that the zipper goes on the long side, and in the drawings it sure looks like it goes on the short end.By the time I finished, I was sweating so badly you'd think I'd just done an hour of Pilates. And let me be clear - even if I'd had another person helping me, there would have been no way in he** we could have ever gotten such a case onto my old queen sized coil mattress. The zipper opening is simply too small. If you have a gel or foam mattress, you could probably do it but you will have to fold or push or do whatever to get it through that small opening. Negative reviews of every cover I read said the same thing, about the difficulty of getting them on.I get they want to make as small an opening for bugs to get through as possible, but what good is it if you can't actually get it over the mattress? Some smart person out there needs to design a cover that's easy to put on but still provides good blockage for bugs and dust mites.
