Review on 💾 Optimized QNAP TS-873-4G 8-bay NAS featuring AMD R-Series Quad-core 2.1GHz CPU and Four 1GbE Ports by Isaac Samal

I switched to this NAS from Synology DS1817+. So far I love it so much. It is powerful and has many upgrade options. I upgraded it to 2x8GB RAM to bring the total to 20GB. I then added an SFP+ adapter (Intel X520-DA2) which increases the Ethernet speed to 10G. In a RAID 5 configuration, my upload/download speed is around 350MB/s. Speed is limited in RAID 5 as 3 read/write disks are used. The speed increases when I add 5 more disks to the RAID. I also added a graphics card (MSI GTX) for transcoding. Since this card requires two slots and I had to sacrifice my SFP+ slot as a result, I had to extend the connection to the graphics card with a PCIe extension cable (10cm). This configuration works great because the graphics card is only for transcoding. Now I can transcode movies straight to the NAS at lightning speed. Note. The AMD processor does not support transcoding. I also upgraded it with two 500GB WD SATA m.2 memory sticks in a RAID 0 configuration for data caching (RAID 1 doesn't help much with RAID 5 since SATA M.2 is limited to 560MB /s is limited). The only downside is that this QNAP NAS only accepts SATA M.2 flash drives, which are limited to 570MB/s. It does not support NVMe M.2 flash drives which can reach speeds up to 6000MB/s.
