This is a very soft and comfortable pillowcase - much nicer than I expected for such a great price. I ordered grey, a nice deep color that goes well with my other bedding. I usually buy cotton pillowcases, but I have a new pillowcase that will be used more for decorative purposes, so I decided to try this prettier one. As it turned out, this pillowcase is not only decorative, but also functional. Velvet has a very smooth, low pile with an almost flowing drape, very soft and comfortable. It also looks great on its own or with my other pillows and I also think it looks more expensive than it is. It matched my light medium pillow very well and was easy to put on. The zipper is very unobtrusive and works smoothly. I think it might be a bit more difficult to put it on a firm or high pillow and it will fit just fine. I think this is an attractive, well-made pillowcase worth its current price of $11.99.
