Poor durability for Car Safety & Security

Purchased in July 2011. The first was DOA. Revan immediately replaced him. The camera was out of order in mid-October. I order a replacement from Revain with the intention of having Pyle replace the faulty camera so I have a spare camera on hand. The new camera failed in November 2011 and Revain replaced that as well. The replacement failed in January 2012. Pyle never responded to email support requests. Their website says to email pyle dot com support, which I did twice with no response. I can honestly say that the lifespan of this product is severely limited and the support for this product seems to be non-existent. However, the video quality was pretty good while it was running. I paired it with another Pyle product, a Pyle PLCM7200 7 inch SLR TFT monitor with night vision rear camera. It was used as a permanent rearview mirror on a long wheelbase van and worked very well. The wide-angle view makes everything appear further away than it really is, and this can make it appear as if something is approaching very quickly from behind. As a rear camera, I have no complaints at all. The grid projected onto the screen seemed fairly accurate until you got close to the object behind you. It takes a little getting used to, but my wife and I were both able to park this van easily and accident-free. The night performance was actually quite good. The lights really show the bloom effect, and cars that are directly behind you will blur most of your screen. Otherwise, the clarity of the image is not bad at night in street lighting or in the city. The installation was pretty easy. I had to use a video extension cable (6ft I think) but I have a long wheelbase GMC van so that was to be expected. There are no installation instructions, but you really don't need them if you have basic wiring knowledge and aren't afraid to work on your car or truck. I suppose if you just use these instead of a permanent rearview mirror backup camera it could last a very long time. With us, each camera was switched on for many hours total driving time; For you, it might not just turn on for one hour a year. However, the constant failures of this product in a very short time prevent me from recommending it to everyone. Update January 16, 2012: I called Pyle Audio for assistance. Actually got it right away. For warranty service after 30 days from date of purchase, you have to pay shipping both ways, which I find unreasonable. Since I have 2 cameras they want to send them back for $15. It usually costs $10 to return a camera but since I have 2 of them they charged an extra $5. Luckily they just want me to return the cameras; Wiring can be left in the car. In my opinion, this level of service still deserves one star.
