its merits emerge with time

When I first received this knife, I was surprised by the larger size. Still very new to buying knives online and not knowing what the dimensions in the product description would look like in the hand, what I thought would be a nice office-carry, came in a nearly tactical size. I decided to keep it in the car as a belt-and-window emergency tool. The flipper is prominent and I imagine it would be suitable for breaking out of a window in an emergency. There is a slight drabness to the knife, too. It seems less finished. The edges seem cruder than more expensive knives and the surface of the blade seems slightly patchy on my blacked-out model. However, opening and closing the knife at stoplights (making sure to keep it away from other drivers' view), I began to appreciate the knife's attributes. The motion is not super-slick, but it is smooth and fast. There is a simplicity and honesty with the fold. No expensive alloy ball bearings. The blade is a sharp tool, if not particularly pretty. The handle is straightforward and allows for a solid grip. Important for emergencies. I see the benefit of a larger tool for emergencies: easy to spot, easy to hold, and easy to deploy. There is no new wine and old wineskins feel about this knife. It is a budget/value knife and doesn't purport to be more. It is not a sad attempt at looking like a more expensive knife. While relatively inexpensive, it does not feel cheaply made.

Pros
  • Knives
Cons
  • The knife lacks a serrated edge, limiting its utility for more rugged tasks.
