Review on πŸ–₯️ ASUS VS239H-P 1920X1080 Backlit Monitor, Full HD, 60Hz by David Bartholomew

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Amazing image quality compromised by significant backlighting.

ASUS VS239H-P 23" FHD IPS LED Monitor Overall, I'm quite happy with the VS239H-P. Colors are more accurate and richer than any TN panel I've seen. I can see details in movies, photos, and games I never could have imagined. The picture quality is incredibly sharp and doesn't seem to suffer much from the anti-glare coating. The only real adjustment I had to make was the brightness. With the default brightness setting of 100, it can be difficult to stay longer than staring at the display for half an hour before taking a break. For prolonged use, setting the brightness between 30 and 40 is much more comfortable, delivering a brightness close to the commonly preferred 120 nits. Being a small, 23" mid-size monitor, the pixel density is high enough (95.78 PPI, 0.2652mm dot pitch) that no individual pixels can be seen at a normal viewing distance (3 feet). There are Ge Still images even though "no trace" is set to 60. But you really have to look to see it. There are no dead or stuck pixels. The OSD menu is easy to understand and does not require a thorough reading of the manual unless you are new to monitors and displays. The buttons for using the OSD are neatly hidden in the lower right corner, but in a position and orientation that allows for easy manipulation. The glossy frame can be distracting if you're in a very well-lit room or if the display is facing a window during the day. For my use case this is not a problem. The power LED is nicely dimmed, which is nice to see these days when many displays have ridiculously bright power LEDs. Although for some people, blue light can be more distracting than yellow or green light. The stand fits. Although it tends to rock the monitor when pressed, I have no doubt that it holds the monitor securely. The only adjustment is the tilt. You cannot rotate the monitor, and if you want to rotate it, you have to move the entire monitor. Attaching the stand was not difficult at all. Just one screw to turn and no tools required (except thumb and fingers). The number and types of inputs available are adequate, but DisplayPort inputs are welcome. I knew one of them wasn't included when I bought the display but I still think it should be listed as a scam. The orientation of the entrances is awkwardly pointed straight back. This causes the cables to stick out, making it difficult to place the monitor close to the wall. Using a flat VESA wall mount is not suitable. There are no USB ports or audio jacks, but I would never use them if they were enabled anyway. The monitor has speakers but I haven't used them and probably never will. This is my first IPS monitor, but I know the various disadvantages of IPS displays. Especially backlight and IPS glow. So I didn't expect perfection. However, the monitor I received has obvious dents in the lower left corner. Much more than I ever expected. Extension about 1/3 to the center of the display. Even when the brightness is reduced to 38, the bleeding is still clearly visible, regardless of the image displayed. This is also noticeable when surfing websites with a white background. It's very distracting when watching videos or playing games. The brightness and shape of the bleed changes as you press on the face of the bezel. So I highly doubt the bleeding was intentional. This is the only thing that disappoints me, but it can spoil my experience so much that I feel the need for a replacement. But it's like a lottery. When I ship and receive a replacement I will update this review. Pros: - Beautiful colors. - Crisp picture quality - Non-aggressive anti-glare coating - Fine pixel pitch - Minimal ghosting - Flawless panel with no sticky or dead pixels - Satisfactory kickstand - Simple OSD and accessible buttons Cons: - Really obnoxious backlight bleeding - Uncomfortable default brightness (I understand why it's made, but oh well.) - No displayport - Inconvenient downward orientation of the input port)
