First impression out of the box. Wow. It's a lot bigger than my old one. I upgraded from an old 15" LCD monitor to a 23" ASUS LED HD monitor. Where's the difference! assembly required. You have to attach the monitor to the base plate, but it's a simple screw that has both a nickel slot and a built-in lever. Very easy. On the back there is an HDMI, DVI and VGA connection. They are arranged vertically, ie they protrude from behind. I'm not sure, but I have a feeling this can strain the cables over time. I prefer mine to be angled down, but that's a minor issue. After connecting your monitor, make sure you go to the display settings on your graphics card (or desktop) and set the correct resolution. It's big, 1920 x 1080. Then press the Auto button on the front and select your preferred display mode. The options are sRGB, Landscape, Standard, Theater (has the deepest blacks), Game, and Night View. I didn't notice any of the graininess that others have reported unless I got very close to the screen. If you see graininess, sit back at your usual distance and/or make some brightness adjustments. After setting it up, I immediately started several games. At the moment I'm playing Infinite Space and it takes up a lot of screen real estate. After a few turns I switched to the AC4. Then came word processing. Everything is clear and crisp. The black is black, all the colors are very rich, and the refreshment is excellent. The text is legible, without halos and aliasing. The only thing I really find fault with is the narrow neck that connects the monitor to the base. I don't have a heavy desk, just a basic computer desk, and when I bump into it, the monitor wobbles back and forth. It doesn't move when I type. The monitor is also lower than my previous one. The bottom of the screen is only 3-4 inches above the table, while the top is only 16 inches. I'm a bit taller than some people so I look down but maybe that's better for my posture. To be honest, I don't think the latter will really be a problem given the size of this screen. The time will show. Pros: - price is rather low considering features and quality - 23 inch real estate screen - resolution and colors. Multiple selectable inputs. VESA mounts 100mm. Wide viewing angle.
