Easy to use and safer than expected

Good for shaping EVA foam. (Be careful when heating the foam: buy a respirator, do it in a ventilated area, don't do it around pets.) The on/off switch is very easy to operate with one hand. It's designed to stand on its own when placed on its "back" (nozzle points up), and it's very handy if you're doing something that requires you to put the gun aside a lot . The construction looks solid; doesn't feel cheap. So far it has worked fine with an *outer* extension. I was very nervous that I might burn or burn my countertop when I saw the temperature readings, but my fears seemed unfounded. Getting your hand to the exit is like sticking your hand in a 400-degree oven: a few seconds can't even hurt, let alone burn you. I'm not sure which element reaches the specified temperature (probably something in the gun), but the foam I'm heating doesn't seem to reach that temperature. However, the metal tip gets VERY VERY hot and stays hot for some time after the gun is turned off. (I haven't measured it, but I'd say within half an hour.) This metal is hot enough to burn you, so use caution and put it somewhere safe while it cools.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of fashion
