Review on Moen GX50C Horsepower Continuous Disposal by Doug Hinrichsen

Great alternative to litter chutes

Bought a new insinkerator (Badger 5 1/2 HP) 4 years ago. I really expected it to last my whole life. I have never seen anyone in my family replace their insinkerator as it grew. The unit I replaced (Insinkerator) had a failed seal that caused us to flood every time we used the kitchen sink. The replacement I installed 4 years ago was the only big deal brand, but I felt confident going from 1/3 to 1/2 hp. Surprise! This is no longer an important factor in their durability. The secret is that they now use cheap steel that corrodes very quickly. Most are simply galvanized, giving a layer that wears away over time. My block rusted a long time ago, but lately it looks like large chunks of rust have actually blocked the flywheel. TL; DR: This brand could be better. Incinerators are cheaper. Buy whatever has the most stainless steel components. This Moen block is a perfect match for existing hoses and pipes. I didn't have to cut anything or redo anything. The motor is powerful and relatively quiet—until you throw some food in. Then the noise surpasses our old devices. I advise - at the same time change the drain hose of the dishwasher. They are cheap and when you have to replace them they will be very brittle. Mine only cracked because I pushed it aside to install a new disposal. We thought we did something wrong with the installation. Worth a try.
