A bit slow, but got the job done

I bought this hole saw to drill a hole in my brick wall to run a refrigerant lineset and wiring through when I installed my mini split heat pump. This hole saw was a bit slow to go through the brick and I had to stop and let my drill cool off a couple of times, but the brick was pretty thick and it got the job done eventually, so I can't complain for the price. The tip doesn't look like it has been damaged or significantly worn out either, so it seems to have survived drilling the hole.

Pros
  • quolity
Cons
  • The 5/8"-11 Arbor may not be compatible with all types of drills

Perhaps the one I received was defective?

I received a defective product but.core bit was unable to cut 1 inch of brick. With just a little pressure ( this from a contractor whom has drilled many holes with a sds drill) the adapter bit sheeted off in my drill. This made me very grumpy. The seller gave a full refund .I'm assuming something was defective with the Core bit, which then put too much tork on the adapter. EDiamond tool representative was very patient with my grumpiness. would purchase from this company again, even though…

Pros
  • solid bit worked great for my purposes
Cons
  • Wouldn’t even cut through brick once and had to grind shank to get it to go in drill

The brick wall had 1/8 inch thick solid wires running between the cement but the drill bit had no issues cutting through. Used the drill bit dry. I ordered with the pilot bit which made the start of the drilling process a little easier but I did remove the pilot bit after I drilled in a few inches. Made two 2.5 inch holes for 2 ductless AC/heater units. The SDS plugs arbor attachment worked as expected.Great value for the price. Not sure how many more times I can use the drill bit before it…

Pros
  • The bit bored fine, problem was the pilot bit kept falling out or the adapter.
Cons
  • Too heavy to use for extended periods of time

Bored great for my opinion

Used the 2.5" bit to drill 3 holes through a 24" thick fieldstone foundation. Pilot was too long, so it would flex when attempting to start the diamond bit. So I started a hole with just the pilot on hammer, then added the core bit and a homemade centering spacer that kept everything lined up, and got it started. Removed the pilot, and let it do the work with some water. It was a long process with my SDS, but no longer than a dedicated core borer setup honestly. Much cheaper than renting a…

Pros
  • It looks real good quality, still need to use it and see how it actually performs. Thanks.
Cons
  • May not be suitable for drilling through thick or dense materials

Good tool that works

When starting the hole on the rough brick surface the core drill tends to walk away from the pilot hole. This is because of the length of the tool. There is a lot of flex in the pilot bit. I’m sure this would not be an issue on a smooth flat surface such as concrete block. So I had to adapt by removing the pilot bit after the core hole was started and then it cut a fast clean hole through the brick And completed a nice looking job. Appears to be very little if any wear on the cutting edge of…

Pros
  • drilled thru 10ins of basement wall
Cons
  • Product came with no instructions.

Don't plan on using the pilot bit.

This is a great bit, I would have given it 5 stars if the pilot bit was a little longer. The pilot bit is too short to work. I had to make a jig to hold the bit until it was drilling where it should. Once drilling, the core bit worked flawlessly, for a cheap core bit.

Pros
  • Great for DIY and professional use alike: Whether you're a seasoned pro or a DIY enthusiast, this bit is a great choice for any project
Cons
  • May be difficult to control while drilling, causing accidents

Best thing since sliced bread

This cored through solid concrete and old blocks easily. One trick I forgot to do that would have made it even quicker -- once your coring is started, remove the pilot bit. It makes a clean hole relatively effortlessly.

Pros
  • One hole worked perfectly
Cons
  • May not work well on uneven surfaces

Revainrating 4 out of 5

be sure to use low speed

I made 15 clean holes through hollow block and brick using low speed drilling and it was still cutting good,(High speed drilling will cause premature wear). I lent the bit to another contractor and found out later that they use it on hammer drill setting and completely ruined the bit after one hole.

Pros
  • Drill Bits
Cons
  • Requires a lot of maintenance to keep the diamond core in good condition

Bit fell apart after 3 holes

The bit fell apart in the middle of drilling the fourth hole ever. The hardened end separated from the rest of the bit and is now useless. This in addition to the set screw flying out as others have mentioned. Cheap, but you get what you pay for I guess.

Pros
  • DRILLING DEPTH - 9.5" drilling depth
Cons
  • Not suitable for use on vertical surfaces

I needed to drill a 4-1/4" hole through the brick & wood of my basement exterior wall to run a 4" diameter dryer vent. A local plumber wanted at least $150 to do it and since I already own an SDS Hammer drill I decided to do it myself using this 4-14" hole saw. I started by drilling a pilot hole using a 14" long 3/8" masonry bit. I installed the bit that came with the hole saw and I really cranked it down using a long, SAE allen wrench- it's funny that the wrench that came with the hole saw…

Pros
  • GRIT SIZE - #30/40 grit size
Cons
  • The diamond core may produce jagged edges on the material being drilled

Did great! for my opinion

Needed to drill 3 holes through concrete block wall for mini split installation. One of the holes turned out to be solid. Drill worked much better than I expected, being a dry bit. I suggest forgetting about the pilot bit, and saving it for other uses. The bit is too long to center properly, and will not guide the blade to the center anyway. Not the fault of the hole saw, it is just long. Instead, I drilled a 2.5 inch hole in a 2x4, then mounted it on the wall with Tapcons, and used it as a…

Pros
  • HEAVY DUTY - embedded diamond concentration guarantees longer core life and efficient drilling
Cons
  • The diamond core may become clogged with debris during use

A few problems with the product

The drill bits it way to short. It makes it really hard to start the hole. Also the set screw keeps coming loose no matter how hard I tighten it. The hole saw cuts good but binds a lot the further the drill penetrates.

Pros
  • It got the job done. Drilled numerous holes through standard cinder block without an issue.
Cons
  • This is not a pro Grade product , nice fir one or two uses

Was not strong enough!

I am not pleased with this Bit. On the first use on a concrete wall the bit broke. It appeared to fit the Bosch drill that we have, but the screw kept jumping out of place. Overall it was a waste of money.

Pros
  • The SDS Plus pilot bit adapter ensures compatibility with a variety of tools, making this bit a great choice for any setup
Cons
  • The 5/8"-11 Arbor may loosen over time and cause misalignment

Cored The Job in my review

Rerouted a kitchen sink drain through concrete block wall. This drilled through an 8" CMU block in about 5-10 mins on medium speed attached to my electric drill.

Pros
  • Made from premium materials and built to exacting standards, this bit is sure to deliver exceptional performance and reliability over the long term
Cons
  • May not be effective for removing large amounts of material quickly

Adaptor shaft: my feedback

The core bit was fine, the SDS adapter shaft is twisted after use indicating that it was not hardened/tempered enough thus when the bit got stuck it twisted the shaft rather than simply stopping the core drill.

Pros
  • The bit works great but you need to apply a lot of pressure for the bit to cut.
Cons
  • Requires well-maintained and sharp pilot bit to function properly

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not for concrete: my feedback

I know it is to be used for brick and cinder block. I tried using it on concrete it was useless. Would not cut through the stones. I’m sure it would work well on brick and block.

Pros
  • Masonry Core Drill Bits
Cons
  • Limited warranty period may not cover all types of damage or defects

9 Inches of Foundation Wall

This dry core bit did the job on a clean 9 inches of foundation wall. Wasn't sure if it would hold up to the hammer mode, but after 4 inches and 2 days of trying in drill mode only I switched it to hammer mode and took care of business. Bit still looks good enough to handle another hole if needed.

Pros
  • Whether you're drilling through brick, block, or concrete, this versatile bit can handle it all with ease
Cons
  • The 9.5" drilling depth may not be long enough for certain projects

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works for concrete.

Drilled a 2 1/4” hole through 9” of concrete, not block and stumbled upon 5/8” rebar. I used 2 drills because they were getting hot. I put the drill in hammer mode, it seemed to cut better. High speed worked best. Took 2 good batteries and about 20 minutes. Bad ass bit. You can do it.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • The diamond core may become dull over time with frequent use

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Broke on first hole, with water.

Granted the concrete was hard, the hole saw broke on the first use. If it’s an important job, go with a reputable company. Unless your concrete is soft or you are drilling through brick or mortar and not concrete.

Pros
  • was able to complete the job i was working on with no problem
Cons
  • May not be suitable for beginners or inexperienced users

Used once and the carbide was gone

Used this to core drill a church basement foundation to see the thickness and condition of the foundation. Drilled in about 3" and it would not go further. Pulled it out, the carbide was gone. There were no boulders etc. in the wall it was just old poured concrete.Do not buy this one.

Pros
  • Power Tool Parts & Accessories
Cons
  • May not work well with low power drills
