About 3 days in use and had to be shut down manually a few times when my 1 gallon betta tank reached 87 (and will likely climb higher and cook my fish soon). Room temperature 73. Also, a bit of sticky liquid seems to be leaking out where the cord meets the heating pad. My fish didn't die, but maybe glue got on it? or any other toxic chemical most often in contact with water. Therefore, unfortunately, I cannot recommend the product

That's just under a gallon in a container. Betta is the "rescuer," one of three my daughter brought home from the pet shop where she works. (They were in bad shape.) I needed another heater and it is absolutely perfect. He's already feeling better, swimming, eating and blowing happy bubbles! I will eventually update if needed but for now I would definitely buy this unit again if needed.

This is not an adjustable heater. Other than that, it fits perfectly in my 2.5g beta tank. I throw it in, plug it in and it keeps water at around 76-78 degrees. Sometimes less, sometimes more. My beta doesn't need a fixed temperature, he's happy as long as he's not cold. If I plan on replacing the whole bowl, I put the heater in the jug of clean water to heat it up first to avoid shock. It may have been a faulty product that did not affect the entire line but the heater I received formed a film after a few days. I noticed my betta was starting to misbehave so I took out the heater to inspect them. After I took it off, a strong chemical smell came from the heater. I threw the heater in the bin and immediately gutted my tank to save my betta. I'm still not sure if he will recover. Very disappointing as Aqueon is considered a good reliable brand. I was worried I would cook Swim Shady in its 1.5 gallon tank with this heater but it was amazing! I have a thermometer so I can check the temperature. and it stayed constant at 77-78°F. Perfect. My little fella didn't have a heater in his first pool, but since moving to a new house with a heater he has become noticeably more active. He's definitely enjoying himself and I love it! Since it doesn't have a preset temperature, I'd recommend bringing a thermometer with you to keep an eye on the tank

I have this heater for a 4 gallon battle tank. It raises the temperature to 84 if I forget to turn it off in time. As an experiment, I switched it to a different 5 gallon tank. It took a few hours but after the water leveled off the water stayed steady at 75°, I wouldn't recommend this for a tank under 5 gallons. I added a heater to my high tech 1.5 gallon shrimp tank that maintains a decent 70 degree temperature even in the winter here in Northern California where it gets cold.
