Light Duty Kit will not fit 18 " Aluminum Grummon

The blocks were too small and compressed too much for the canoe to touch the roof of the car. The included 'cords' were too light, luckily we already had some heavier harnesses that were strong enough.

Pros
  • Alright!
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Good starter kit to build

This is a great basic kit but we had to replace 2 pads and add some winch straps over the course of a few weeks. We have found that pool noodles cut into smaller pieces and split down the middle (shown with and without pool noodles) can be used to complement this set.

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • No automation

Otherwise the quality is good.

The only thing I agree with is that the height of the foam blocks is slightly less than the low profile side. The slight curve of my roof finally touches the canoe midway between the blocks. The towel protects the canoe from rubbing against the roof. A flat roof shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise the quality is good.

  • GOLS certified

Great low cost solution for transporting my canoe

Fast delivery as promised. This kit fully corresponds to the description. It had everything I needed to carry my 16ft canoe onto the roof of a truck without damaging the paint/clear coat. I didn't forget to wash the roof thoroughly before covering it. This ensured that there were no dirt or dust particles under the pads that could cause scratches.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Nothing

Mostly junk on roof racks

The best thing about this set is the canoe foam blocks. They are alright. S hooks are quite difficult to tie yourself and the snap on hooks are cheap and easy to use so I wouldn't bother with those particular hooks. My kit came with ONE winch strap which clearly says it comes with two so that was a disappointment too, not to mention you shouldn't be holding the canoe without two of them! Generally mostly useless, except for foam blocks.

  • New
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Cheap materials and a strap make this a waste of money.

I rarely give 1 star. In many cases the product is good for some but not all consumers. This is one of the rare exceptions. I can't think of a single scenario where this would make sense. The foam is very soft. So soft that it doesn't provide enough protection for anything but the lightest load. The strap seems to be of decent quality but it takes two straps to attach anything to the roof so using just one strap is irresponsible.

  • Great for me

Don't buy this one.

I've had several of these. I needed another recently so I bought this one. A big mistake if you care about the safety of your canoe and the finish of your car. First, the foam blocks are too small to protect the car's trim. Secondly, there is only one polyethylene strap (as in the picture) and not two as in the description. The polyethylene strap is made of very cheap metal and offers no comfort. There are also no vinyl coated clips. Third, I have a hard time calling a 20-foot rope a "rope"…

Not secure without additional brackets

Bought to mount a canoe on my truck's roof rack. I wanted the foam pillows more than the other pieces. Pads are non-slip (almost sticky) and firm enough with cutouts to fit and hold guns in place. They protect my canoe from abrasion on the luggage rack. I have found use for the cords provided which are of good quality, easy to tie, do not slip and easy to untie. The tether supplied is useless and from the instructions it looked like it was meant to be looped around the canoe and in the roof of…

Pros
  • Heavy duty construction

Not thick enough for camping

I used it to tow my canoe but it stops there. The blocks are too thin. The foam under the canoe is too thin. This brings the gunwale close to the roof. He scratched my car while positioning the canoe because there was a slight curve that wasn't covered by the blocks. The foam also rolls under the canoes, and since they offer the smallest blocks possible, this doesn't give much freedom of movement. The foam block narrows, which increases the pressure directly under the canoe. The foam cannot…
