I love these rain guards for my hummingbird feeders. They are not big but fit perfectly with the two feeders I have. They protect feeders and small lobsters from the rain! They are a really nice dark red color and I think they help put them on as well. I also think it helps to keep the sun out when it hits the feeders. It rained several times a day, several days in a row for an unusually long time in my area. After a long rain I realized my sugar water was diluted and the birds didn't like it so they didn't come. Bought this to provide shade so my metal bottomed hummingbird feeder doesn't get as hot. The direct sunlight was so hot that the birds didn't use it for most of the day. And heat also ferments the nectar. This does not shade the feeder from morning and late afternoon light but protects it when the sun is overhead in the heat of the day. I have the red and blue ones, they are strong, durable and add a lot of color to the bird feeder wood I use. Especially when the sun is overhead, you see colored circles moving across the ground. Very attractive red colour. I primarily wanted this to protect the feeder from the rain, which oddly we've had A LOT this year. Feeders are located in / in / next to the oak crowns. I recently found that sugar water that has bacteria/mold/fungus cultures growing in it will kill lobsters so hopefully I will NOT have to worry and will have to replace it with fresh water (use mild bleach water to soak all parts for 5 minutes , and then rinse them well and always boil filtered water to dechlorinate
