The AM4 mounting method uses thumbscrews that screw into hooks that attach to your motherboard's AM4 bracket. The heatsink has the fewest fin defects of any 4 AIO coolers I've had. I haven't had any problems preparing for the installation. There are a number of issues and frustrations associated with using this cooler with a Z390e gaming motherboard (and possibly others ROG Strix motherboards). If you try to POST after the installation, you will get a "CPU_FAN" error, which prevents the PC from starting Windows.
