Easy Install - Exterior Accessory

I added this to a 2011 Ford Explorer XLT with an existing tow package. (Already has a 7 pin trailer connector) Along with the CURT 51323 Quick Plug Electric Trailer Brake Controller, Select Ford, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercury Trucks and SUVs, this was the easiest install I've ever done. The hardest part was tying the wires so they wouldn't get in the way. If you can replace the wiper, you can install it. The connector/connection to the outgoing wiring harness was near the parking brake lever…

First defect/company change

***UPDATE*** - Contacted manufacturer's warranty department after the first one was defective. The replacement was sent quickly with no problems. This worked much better after my trip last weekend. Raised my rating because of the customer service I received. Installed in April, which was very basic but could not be used until June. When I first used it it kept locking up my trailer brakes and the output control at the top seems broken, didn't move very much but turned all the way to the left…

Use less than Ng, don't work with a trailer!

I got mine a long time ago and it was easy to install and all. But every time I plug it into the trailer, it turns off. Normally without a trailer it will illuminate green when the brakes are applied, but when connected to a trailer it will go out and not function. I've tried calling and getting help but always fail, even replaced all the fuses that could be the problem and nothing has worked. And I know the trailer is good because my 2019 fingers don't touch it and the controls on this truck…

A little fiddly, works great!

This brake control works great! We use it to tow (stop) our 2015 single axis Starcraft AR-ONE 18fb. Our trailer weighs about 3,800 pounds when loaded. The only complaint I have is the very delicate handling. I used to have one of the most advanced auto parts and I have to say this elliptical venturer does the other. I don't remember the other's name. It was very easy to install. Just drill two small holes under the dashboard to install and connect. We're using it in a 2002 Chevy Tahoe LS, so…

Good value for money

Fits (easily) on a 2016 Chevy Colorado with trailer. More responsive compared to previous units as I really need these set really low to keep the brakes from locking up quickly but once I get to the sweet spot it seems to work well. maybe better than the more expensive model I had in another vehicle. Overall I think it's good value for money. Would actually give an extra 1/2 star (if I was allowed to give 1/2 star), with the only deduction so far being sensitivity (and I'm not sure if it's a…

Works like 4 times more expensive

This is my 4th brake controller in 24-25 years. My last one was in my Chevy PU when I sold it so I put it in my new Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was the cheapest brake controller I've ever bought, but I made it based on a lot of positive reviews and only a few bad ones. All the controls I've had worked equally well, I've never had a problem with them, whether I'm an 8800lb 5. wheel or tow a 3,000-pound work trailer. It must have been an easy install as my mechanic only charged me $60 for the…

Bad controller short circuit out of the box

Apparently these brake controllers have a problem with a short circuit in the controller, there is a tip on the trailer itself to troubleshoot if the blue wire is always hot. Well the blue wire only needs to be hot when you apply the brake, the brake signal wire goes to the red wire and the controller outputs go to the blue wire so the blue wire isn't hot all the time. It just locked your brakes on your trailer all the time, very helpful. Well this one never connected until yesterday because I…

You get what you pay for

This is my second brake controller on the same trailer. The first was a low-level inertia type. I liked it a lot more. While the Curt controller seems to get the job done in normal traffic on my 2000-pound trailer, I'm not sure how it will behave in an emergency braking situation. The instructions regarding the Sync Settings feature are vague; I assume it's the deceleration before the trailer brakes. The instructions also do not state whether the "Synchronization" or "Output" setting is…
