I used to have one of these to block the old spiral staircase in the house I'm climbing into. It was removed as we got older but now I have a curious 3 year old, I don't want to climb stairs. that I fell even in adulthood. Doesn't scare animals away, but I didn't need it for that. I wanted a sliding gate for the stairs to keep dogs out of the second floor. These gates meet all requirements. I use it with the railing kit. Installation was easy. The bottom latch bracket could fit the mounting lug a little better, but the gate is sturdy. A plate with a round pin is easier to insert into an eyebolt than a flat plate, which barely fits. The gate is a bit expensive for what it is. I mean it's just a bunch of raw wooden planks and fasteners.

Update! Well, after 9 years of being exposed to the elements and moving around town, it broke! We can't leave anything good behind!
