This product claims to be UHD compatible but makes no mention of the on the drive written software completely disables the drive reading discs out of the box. The block I received was made with version 1.04 written to the hardware. This version, like version 1.03, reads that it is a 4k disc and stops reading further. The user needs to flash the desired version that allows 4k disc burning. Versions 1.00 to 1.02 work with 4k discs. For a computer savvy person this was a relatively easy task but…

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Color Not Required

The first was DOA. It was so terrible that my computer became unstable or failed to boot. The second works but can only read half the Blu-ray discs I put in, even new blanks straight off the spindle won't read half the time but they work great on my 10 year old 12x Lite on one Burner. It's just a little more than my 10 year old Lite on a 12x Blu-ray drive on an old p67 chipset motherboard that was just a storage farm and workhorse for years. But even worse is the fact that Google's results say…

Excellent UHD 4k drive fiendish with firmware downgrade

Like the old LG Blu disk, this one works just as well, reads and writes all formats as described, very well with decent software like imgburn (it's free). I believe Asus and LG similar drives are from regular manufacturer Hitachi. I think the only difference is the name on the front and the sticker under the hood, it's the same drive, keep that in mind. Out of the box it doesn't play my 4k discs, shame on the maker turning to the entertainment industry. You would think that with the slow sales…

  • Long wait

I received this Blu-ray drive in December 2020 and installed it on my computer without any problems. The very first Blu-ray disc I tried to play (brand new disc, straight out of the box) would not play due to all the limitations they imposed on the latest firmware that came with the drive. You MUST downgrade to play most Blu-ray movies. The Blu-ray drive I received was packaged in a very plain box with no markings to indicate it was 'LG'. There were no documents, installation instructions…

2 failed. LG warranty support is a dead end clown show.

This is the second LG Blu-ray copier that didn't work for me. Both models are WH16NS40. This last failed drive is still covered by the 1 year warranty. A month after making a warranty claim, this is the 5th time I've called for a replacement. I submitted my original claim to LG online. I was called and asked for a serial number (this was an optional field in the online application). I called them back with the serial number, thinking I'd get my new Blu-ray drive soon. Weeks went by and I heard…

Excellent drive but not 4k with the new firmware. You can roll back!

Excellent drive for your money. That has been said. In 2017 they started shipping them with a firmware update (v1.03) that ended their ability to read 4k Bluray movies. If you are familiar with computers, you can roll back the driver to version 1.02, but it's not as simple as going to the driver download page on LG's website and downloading the old firmware. LG has locked the firmware so you can only update it and not reset it. All hope is not lost yet! I personally completed the rollback…

Flawless out-of-the-box performance

I have researched very carefully for the best Blu-ray burner to burn M-Discs for long-term archiving. I chose this one despite being cheaper and having slightly lower reviews. There are two other Blu-ray burners I've been able to find on Amazon with higher ratings. ). I assumed these issues were firmware or software related based on my technical experience. People got devices with outdated firmware or used crappy recording software like Cyberlink. After receiving the goods, I was ready to…
