I installed this on my third desktop which is not my main computer so I haven't used the burner but have bought burners of this brand several times and I have always been pleased with their performance. The software was not specifically designed for this recorder, so I tried it on my other desktops as well. This is outdated. There's nothing you can do about it, so I'm removing it, so don't spend more on this burner just to get the software. You'd better get free software from download.com.

Since they decided CDs and DVDs were obsolete and no longer fit in 99.9% of computers, I built my own computer and this CD drive Installed. Works perfect. Remember, thanks to Microsoft, if you're using Windows 10 without downloading other software first, you can't play DVDs. It will play music just fine, but in their great wisdom (mostly out of greed) they have used every method to get your computer to play DVDs without buying a program or downloading a free program to make it work.

I installed everything correctly, double checked every connection, tried every port and everything, but the tray works. The paperclip method opens the tray, but it doesn't close by itself or when a button is pressed. The drive shows up under Devices/This PC and lights up so I know it has power. Customer service has been contacted, we will update the review throughout the process. Update: I ended up having to send the disc back and the seller lets you pay the shipping and then ships it back to…

Drive works. The Nero software works too. The problem on my computer turned out to be software, even after replacing this drive, burned CD-Rs would not play like the old drive. Nero software installed and voila everything works. There must be a software problem with Windows Media Player. Either way, it's a cheap solution. The Nero drive works and I just skip the authentication screen and it keeps working. Very happy with the drive.

This is my third Lite-On product, the first being a CD 17 years ago. Each one seems to last forever and ever. The latter was my first DVD burner and I've been using it for almost 10 years! I hope I have enough time for this. I didn't give it 5 stars just because the version of Nero that came with it was a working "trial" version. I would have just ordered the disc individually if I had known the Nero version had such limitations.
