Unreliable, do not use for software RAID!

Many reviews mention that these cards are unreliable. I've had them for a few weeks now and I have to agree. I bought these to upgrade my media server after an old card I was using failed. Completely rebuilt the server with new drives and had some "weird" issues. It's hard to explain the quirks, software RAID errors that (thankfully) I was able to recover manually. The only thing that seemed certain was that these problems occurred when the software RAID received more data bandwidth. However…

Pros
  • I/O cards
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Check the driver CD

From unpacking to installation everything was a breeze, the only thing that stood out to me was the packaging of the driver CD. The disc was unusable, it was broken, if I tried to run it in my DVD drive I could seriously damage the unit.

Pros
  • Computer components
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Great package if you need to add 8 extra SATA drives

Installed on my Linux based UnRaid server and it works great! Currently only my SSD cache drive is connected to it and the rest is connected to MB and another SATA controller. By moving my cache drive to this controller, my dockers booted, decompressed and installed much faster, and it comes with everything you need including SATA and two 1-to-4 power cables, which is amazing. I can't wait to add 6 more drives to my setup (there are only 6 free drive bays). As long as the controller is working…

Pros
  • RAID controller
Cons
  • Not as good as it says

Works as advertised

I don't like that only half the ports work at boot but that's the nature of the beast. A more expensive card that doesn't share resources might solve this problem, but this card works fine after installing the drivers. It's slow when writing to multiple drives on the same card, but reading doesn't seem to be a huge bottleneck, and my main goal was archiving massive amounts of data, and that's good enough for that. (The cons I mentioned are explained on the product page so it's not surprising)…

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Slightly torn

good device. Works for what it's supposed to be.

The only problem was that the instructions in the readme file on the floppy were wrong. I found the device in the drives panel as an unnamed device in the device setup menu. He wasn't in any of the areas listed in the instructions. After I found it, the installation was successful.

Pros
  • Internals
Cons
  • Good, but not great
