For the Blade Freak Adjuster in your life, Anotherdoodad

Perhaps or probably due to a combination of this user's ignorance of Kanna blade sharpening, honing and precision refurbishing, I didn't see much of a difference between spraying with a few drops of water or using these oils on my stone. I ended up resorting to my tried and true method for getting a razor sharp edge - I bought a new one from Revain.

Great solution for honing.

I've been using my blacksmith sharpener for about 15 years and have finally used up the vial of sharpening solution that came with it. This bottle should last at least as long. When I ran out of oil I tried different oils/water/etc. to replace the actual sharpening solution, but I could not reproduce the ability of this material to separate metal particles from diamond stone while providing an excellent knife sharpening lubricant. . These are great things.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Interval

Dear colored water.

This solution doesn't work any better than water, I honestly don't know how this thing is supposed to work. It dissolved into the stone, didn't smear surfaces, didn't hold debris in suspension, and caused my stone to foul the material to the point where it couldn't be sharpened more effectively. I don't know if I can clean my stone to a usable surface at the moment. colored water. I used to watch my grandfather spit on his rocks and get incredibly sharp results, maybe I'll pour that out andโ€ฆ

Great Stuff - Lubricant

Smith Honing Oil has always been and continues to be the BEST solution you can buy. IF you know what you are actually doing. I can make my knives sharp enough to snip my wife's hair as long as I hold her in the air. Shave my legs, my neck, 5 o'clock shadow. They call it. To the folks here who say it dulls the blades and you're just buying "expensive water," they seem to have no idea what they're doing or what the true purpose of whetstone honing oil is. It should be good. For fillingโ€ฆ

Significantly sharper edges when using oil compared to this solution.

Due to good reviews I switched from honing oil to this solution. I had very sharp edges for a long time and I ran out of oil. However, after several uses of this solution, I was never able to achieve a truly sharp edge. After some blades became dull from heavy use I cleaned my stones and switched back to sharpening oil (Lansky) and was able to get very sharp edges right away. I really wanted to like this honing solution because I wanted to get away from oil; but it wasn't even close. Perhapsโ€ฆ

Very good especially if you work away from home

I sharpen chisels and/or planes almost every day but not usually in my workshop. I chose Smith's honing solution about six months ago and am happy with it. The decision was made based on the fact that Smith's is not oil based: it is water soluble. Since I'm mostly on the go and reliably wash/rinse/dry, I'd rather use a water-based solution. Vaseline provides slightly better lubrication, but its real benefit is that it doesn't dry out. This material dries quickly, which is particularly annoyingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
