No need to spend $500+ for a simple test

I work on CNC machines so most motors up to 10hp. Using this along with our offices which are far more expensive than a digital megger and telling me if an engine is good, bad or at the limit tells me as much as a big $$$.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • A few little things

Broke after a week: Electrically checked

Looks like new, not scratched yet, used a few times, works fine, loved product until it all reads like shorted in unit disassembled the device to see if the wires touched. just broken Very upset with the price of the device, I expected it to last much longer, the rain never gets wet.

Pros
  • Good product for the price

This is a good indicator, but not necessarily a silver bullet.

You get what you pay for. This is a good indicator, but not necessarily the endorsement you might expect from a megger. It was a great help and a great hindrance to the work. I've learned not to trust him completely. Obviously the price matches the quality so it still gets 3 stars for value.

Great tool suitable for insulation tester

just received this tool and tested it on the compressor today. My trusty PTO read no continuity from winding to ground. Setting my VOM to ohms would allow me to measure the small amount of resistance that a good compressor shouldn't measure from the windings to ground, but at first I questioned my meter until I used this tool to prove that a new compressor that was recently changed is actually bad.

  • This is amazing

Works fine but read the manual

I am using this to help diagnose the refrigeration compressor. A low Megger value does not mean that the compressor is defective. This can be due to moisture or carbon contamination in the system. You should flush the system and change the coolant and oil to be sure. Read the included instructions to learn how to use this commonly abused tool. Let the system blow a fuse from time to time, this gauge will help.

  • Weight

Excellent value for money

Excellent value for money. I work in a commercial industrial air conditioner and regularly disassemble engines. This thing is pretty accurate, I tested it with a $1500 AEMC device and it worked fine. I would not recommend it for cars over 25 hp. It's just not accurate enough for trending. However, for small compressors, fan motors, etc., this works great. It's also good for checking wiring in devices for those "intermittent" electrical problems we love to run into. The downside is that the…

  • Questionable purchase for seniors

I saved over $20,000 testing, measuring and verifying

I had a bad feeling about what we were doing so I ordered this simple tester to confirm my suspicions. A 3 phase network is going down a pole and the guy powering the wires crossed the wires and they got stuck. I tested all 3 phases and one of them didn't work very well. We were able to pull out enough cables to find the damage. Luckily for the electrical company we had enough slack on the mast and were able to cut the bad spot compared to the splice/shrink tubing. If we let him go, the feeder…

Cheap, reliable and easy. Love it.

I use them at work and love them. Lightweight, easy to use and reliable. This won't go into the finer details of the resistance measurement, but will tell you where the weak points are in the circuit. The lower trip point on the scale of this meter is 20 megohms, which is well above the levels I've seen in circuits that operate without tripping overloads or breakers. All of the problematic circuits I've diagnosed with my expensive Fluke test tool have shown less than 1MΩ from line to ground…

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
