I use cheap thermometers and they are usually not that "instant", they take some time to reach a stable state. By then you will have lost all the heat from the oven/grill. This works and temporarily blocks for a second or less. I haven't tested it for "water resistance" but it should be good. I highly recommend it!

I received the thermometer today, so I can't say anything about the durability and battery life. I checked the accuracy and found no errors in it. It gives readings very quickly and I could get the exact value of another item almost instantly without having to wait for it to return to ambient temperature. So five stars for now.

product which is not calibrated for ice water. Bought 2 of them; calibrated several times in the same ice water, and the units stayed 1.5–2 degrees apart. Not good enough. It is also not calibrated up to 32 degrees. Only up to 34 during calibration. It should be reset to 32. Other brands indicate 32 degrees water. I have used at least 6 different models of electronic thermometers. It was one of those models - I bought two of them. They worked well - very comparable to others in accuracy and button function. When I took it out of the box the thermometer read DOA. A quick press of the power button indicates that the battery is already installed. It's set to conserve battery power when not in use. This is the best instant read thermometer I've found under $50, and it's only $14! It is accurate to 1 degree Fahrenheit out of the box and has been tested side by side with my 3 other fairly expensive thermometers with my Anova sous vide oven to accurately read a 12 liter container of water at 125F, 135F, 150F and 185F heat. . I use several instant and wireless thermometers when cooking, roasting and smoking food. I have thermistors from Thermoworks, Maverick, Weber and this one from Thermopro, plus a few others I've bought in the past. I even tested the accuracy of this thermometer with others I have.
