After reading that these Vellux originals didn't look like real 'originals' at all, I was nervous when I ordered. The stench that won't wash off, the harsh faded coloring and severe lint shedding after washing sounded terrible. However, I am very picky about the feel of the blanket. I want warmth but can't stand being weighed down by a heavy weight or getting tangled and unwieldy and the Vellux originals are the only ones that fit the bill. My Vellux originals are 15 years old, have no holes or stains and I am only altering them because I need different colors for my new home. I just ordered three new ones in tornado gray and mocha but I think there is a difference in quality, I only ordered from Revain.com and not a third party. They didn't smell bad at all and several family members smell tested them right out of the box and agreed. They were a bit stiffer than my 15 year olds, but that's a plus, but that's to be expected. I washed them in my favorite scented detergent and fabric softener and dried them on a low heat and they were soft and smelled great, almost perfect. Tornado Gray is a medium grey, not pastel, not too dark. The mocha is a medium taupe, not brown (as you might think) and almost what it appeared on my monitor, not pastel, not too dark. They all look beautiful even without blankets. There was only a small amount of lint in the desiccant, about the size of a large rolled olive, and in my opinion it's better than expected for the first wash. I don't know how they will hold up over the years but so far they seem to be just as good in quality.
