Expands to full size within an hour or two of opening. It didn't smell at all. They are a lot softer than the extra firm Beautyrest pillows I've used. However, once you sink into them, they hold their shape and are comfortable. They work especially well as knee pillows if you sleep on your side. Each pillow weighed 3 pounds 6 ounces, almost a pound more than the Beautyrest. They appear to be high quality, well made pillows.

These pillows came in a vacuum pack which I had never seen before but a minute after opening they flattened out completely. all new pillows. These large pillows fit neatly into the king size duvet covers that came with our new sheets which were then laid straight onto our new bed. This is the second set of new pillows I have bought for our guest bed as I wanted a set with a firmer side and one with a very soft side. They swell up very well when opened, but are quite light and cloud-like. They remind me of my good down pillow, which really sags under the weight - a worthy alternative to down. Pillows are certainly not hard, but comfortable. They were slightly larger than the previous pillows, which came vacuumed and rolled up like a t-shirt.
